The adoption of words of Arabic origin in the Galician language has proved to show a number of difficulties. The introduction of these Arabisms through other languages, such as French or English, as well as the lack of a clear method to transliterate and adapt them has seriously affected the quality of the Galician loans from this Semitic language.
To overcome these problems, the author suggests a methodology to transliterate Arabic loanwords from a Galician point of view, based on the principles of fidelity to the original writing of Arabic graphemes, reversibility and technical simplicity.
From the results of this transliteration, the adaptation of Arabisms to the Galician language will go further with the simplification of the graphic equivalences and the provision of a set of rules to adapt them to the Galician writing. As an example, this methodology is applied to a group of terms related to the Arab culture.
