The popularity enjoyed by “Á marxe”, the daily column which Carlos Casares wrote for the newspaper La Voz de Galicia, had as a consequence that all his writings for the press were labelled as “columnismo”. The author of this paper argues that this labelling is reductive and misguided because it implies that Casares took refuge in “columnismo”, often seen as a minor journalistic genre, to avoid taking a well-reasoned stand on current events. Actually the option of “columnismo” was for him an induced one. The articles which Carlos Casares published in the newspaper El País at the very same time that he was writing his column in La Voz de Galicia, show us his mastery of narrative fiction and are a fitting example to contrast with the texts of “Á marxe”.
