Children’s and Young Adult Literature owes a great deal to Carlos Casares. He wrote the first books for children in Galician language (A galiña azul or As laranxas máis laranxas de todas as laranxas). As a translator, he is responsible for quite a number of titles imported to Galician from other languages, as for example some of Maria Gripe’s works or, most of all, O principiño (Le petit prince). In his role of publisher, during the time he was Chief Editor for Editorial Galaxia, Casares launched a considerable effort in order to publish fiction for children; he is the promoter of collections such as Árbore, Sete Mares or Costa Oeste. As an individual, he was entertaining and willing to connect and get along with his colleagues in the publishing world. Thanks to these contacts he used to build when attending International Book Fairs, Carlos Casares was up-to-date with whatever was published elsewhere.
