This paper will deal with a redefinition of what has been conventionally termed political poetry. In the works of Manuel María these texts will be explored as connected with a humanist vocation, in order to create a polis, i.e. a social structure with collective architecture. This intention is present in his autopoetics, his use of the Galician language, his geography, his composition of a historical map, his socio-pedagogic concern for children’s literature, and in the poetic union with other negated countries such as Brittany. His oeuvre, purposely connected with Galician pre-war literature, stands for a fight against mutism and expresses a will to represent a nation.
