Filgueira Valverde e o seu tempo. Apuntamentos para un retrato

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to delineate an intellectual portrait of the writer Xosé Filgueira Valverde. First of all, Filgueira is set in the epochal context of those prolific years when an ideal Galicia was designed and when lived the avant-garde generation that –along with the members of Nós– brought the signs of modernity to Galician culture. On the other hand his research work, which is structured in two essential areas that were dictated by the assumptions of nationalist thinking, is analyzed: the study of the lyrical tradition in the medieval collection of the Cancioneiros and of the history and inner-history of the city of Compostela, scenic and spiritual symbol of Galicia.

Finally, his creative oeuvre is interpretated in all the genres he cultivated: narrative (with Os nenos), theatre (with Agromar) and poetry (with 6 canciones de mar “in modo antico”).
