This lecture focus on the study of Castelao’s narrative writing in the context of the the Second Revival of Galician Literature fostered by the “Xeración do 16” and the “Irmandades da Fala” that renovated Galician literary prose, and on the links between these writings and the whole of his artistic, intelectual and political works which follows the rule of the “aesthetic sovereignty of the Galician nation” proclaimed at the First Nationalist Assembly celebrated in Lugo in 1918. We use grammatical categories such as Morphology, Syntax and Semantics to characterize his works and to shed light on the main signs that define his narrative, stressing particularly the role played by the symbiotic art which he mastered so well. Finally we conclude that the whole of Castelao’s work was guided by the same desire of achive a dignified representation of Galiza that characterized the ideas and activities of Galician nationalism during the first half of the 20th century.
