Abstract

The aim of this paper is to give an overview on the use of Galician in all Non-Governmental Organizations for Development (NGO's) settled in Galicia. The study was conducted as a descriptive study based on a questionnaire sent to these NGO's. The results obtained reveal a low level of use of Galician in the area. Generally the origin of the organization or the place where its headquarters are settled determine the use they make of Galician or Spanish in their activities. For those whose origins are Galician, the use reaches almost 70 per cent, whereas for the rest the use is about 43 per cent. Regardless the location of their headquarters, the use of both languages is similar –about 57 per cent for Galician and 43 per cent for Spanish.
