In the Asturian region of Eo-Navia an accelerated double process of linguistic and cultural substitution is taking place. The historical imposition of the Spanish language is joined to the political imposition of linguistic and cultural Central Asturian uses. This has a strong impact on the toponymy of this area, as the autochthonous Galician place names are being altered. With the new legislation, the Galician linguistic and cultural authorities and regional Government could help restore the authentic and native place names.
