Abstract

An analysis of Del Riego’s Diario de guerra (2023) leads to a somewhat different interpretation of Francisco Fernández del Riego that takes into account the impact of the coup in 1936, ensuing persecution and the experience of the Spanish Civil War on this brilliant student. A Galician political activist and founder of organizations, Del Riego was prevented from becoming a professor. The executioners and victors embedded in Del Riego’s experience explain his empirical, political, professional and intellectual journey and that of so many others who were defeated and saved.
