Abstract

The political career of Filgueira Valverde as Major of Pontevedra is lesser known than other dimensions of his long biography. He considerably increased the city’s budget and implemented measures in the areas of Sports, Culture and Education whose legacy still remains today. His measures in the area of town planning were however more controversial. Although Filgueira never regretted the time he spent as Major of Pontevedra, he was never fully satisfied with his involvement in local politics.
